“The Union of Love” – Ivory Coast

Mask made of two, nearly identical joined heads, one male and one female. The faces are chiseled with care and the cheeks and forehead feature subtle decoration. To the woman’s face were added delicate embellishments around the mouth. The top of the mask is made of two hats in the typical style, connected in the middle. The entire mask is painted black as a symbol of power, and promotes the idea of unity as the source of livelihood and safety.
