“The Beauty of the Female Tribe Members” – Cameroon

Mask of an older woman, painted white for the communion with tribal ancestors. Her mouth is opened partway to reveal two lines of teeth; her nose is carefully carved; and her eyes are hollow, to allow the wearer to see through. Her hair is gathered in five discrete segments that stick upward in a style typical of the Tikar tribes of Cameroon.
